Bishop Long’s worldwide impact emanates from New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia, where he is the senior pastor of more than 25,000 members. His Emmy award winning broadcast, Taking Authority, which airs on the Trinity Broadcast Network,(TBN), reaches 172 countries and more than 270 million people.
A best-selling author, Bishop Long’s captivating and powerful messages are masterfully captured in a number of books including: It’s Your Time: Reclaim Your Territory for the Kingdom, The Elect Lady, I Don’t Want Delilah, I Need You, What a Man Wants, What a Woman Needs, Called to Conquer, Gladiator: The Strength of a Man and his most recent: 60 Seconds to Greatness: Seize the Moment and Plan for Success. Long is often seen in broadcast and print media as a regular contributor in interviews on CNN, national radio programs and noted news publications.
As a trendsetter Long produces powerful national conferences each year that draws people from around the world to attend his events such as FOCUS, Spirit and Truth and his youth conference known as RePresent. Bishop Long’s international influences include the building of a hospital, a radio station and a school in Kenya. His ministry also expands to New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the Honduras and other nations across the globe.
Recently Bishop Long’s ventures expanded to the airwaves as the executive producer of The Musical Theater of Hope, a television program that was directed by Hollywood Icon Robert Townsend and starred R & B vocalist Howard Hewett. Long also enjoyed success with the release a CD in 2009 titled, Bishop Long and Friends The Kingdom Volume One, featuring Gospel stars Dorinda Clark Cole, Mary Mary, and Tye Tribbett.
“A constant advocate for change”
A constant advocate for change and awareness Long’s outpouring of concern for the community are evident, especially his work with youth. His belief that education is the key to solving the societal ills of poverty, drug abuse, and immorality has been widely documented. His actions attest to this belief. In 1993, New Birth Christian Academy, a private Christian school opened, with Long as its CEO. Numerous youth programs have also been established and outreach ministries that impact people around the world from the homeless, the incarcerated and those battling life threatening diseases. Bishop Long was honored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National HIV/AIDS Partnership (NHAP) for his outstanding and ongoing work in fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS.
A native of North Carolina, Bishop Eddie L. Long received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from North Carolina Central University and a Master’s of Divinity degree from Atlanta’s Interdenominational Theological Center. Additionally, Long received honorary doctorates from North Carolina Central University, Beulah Heights Bible College of Atlanta and Morehouse School of Religion. Bishop Long earned a doctoral Ph.D. in Pastoral Ministry from the International College of Excellence, an affiliate of Life Christian University in Tampa, Florida.
Bishop Long and his wife Vanessa are the proud parents of four children: Eric, Edward, Jared and Taylor. The couple has also served as surrogate parents for many other children in the church and community.
Both his business training and his spiritual training have been factors in the phenomenal successes he has achieved as a religious leader, though he is quick to point out that this success truly belongs to God
